- How do I get a library card?
Your
library card is your SLCC OneCard. OneCard ID Centers are located in
the Student Center, room 034 at Redwood, and room W175 at South City. Call
(801) 957-4022 or go to the OneCard web site for more information.
Community User Cards for non-SLCC personnel are available at Library Circulation
desks for $20.00 per year. Community borrower cards DO NOT allow
home access to magazine databases.
Students from other colleges and Universities in the state may present their
own student IDs to check out materials
Return to Questions
- What is my library ID number?
Your library ID is a 14
digit number printed on your OneCard. The first six numbers on everyone's
card are 233150... this tells our computer system that you are part of SLCC.
The last eight digits are your Student ID number and tell the computer
who you are.
Return to Questions
- How many items can I check out?
You may check out up to
10 items at a time.
Return to Questions
- How long can I keep the items I checked out?
Most items check out for
4 weeks with one renewal allowed. Some videos and other media items check
out for 2 weeks, one week or one day. Reserve items, anatomy models
and other items that cannot leave the building check out for 4 hours.
Return to Questions
- What type of videos do you have at the library?
Videos at SLCC are purchased
to support course work at the college. Most of the videos are academic
in nature, though we do have some feature films. We have foreign language
films, instructional videos, and informational tapes on subjects ranging from
art to zoology.
Return to Questions
- What are the library's hours?
Library hours very by
location and time of year. On the Library
Home Page place the cursor over SLCC Libraries and click on the
campus you are interested in.
Return to Questions
- How can I find a video on a particular subject?
In the Library Catalog,
clicking on the main tab for Media
A / V will bring up a search screen where you can quickly search videos
by subject keyword, as well as by title, author, and general keyword.
Return to Questions
- Where are the libraries (maps and addresses of all
sites)?
Library locations are
found by going to our Home
Page and placing the cursor over SLCC Libraries. Click
on the campus you are interested in.
Campus
maps and driving directions are also available.
Return to Questions
- How do I take care of library fines/have holds released?
The circulation desk is where
fines are collected and holds are released. Late fees are $0.25 an item,
per day. $1.00 is the minimum fine collected per item.
Return to Questions
- Can I return books to any Library?
You may return any SLCC
book to any SLCC Library. Please return non-SLCC items to where you
got them to avoid late fees.
Return to Questions
- What if a book I want is at another branch?
Simply click the "Make
a Request" button on the Library Catalog when you are looking at the
book you want, then enter your Library ID # (found on the OneCard, or follow
the online instructions) . This will put you on a waiting list for the
book, and alert the other branch that you are waiting. They will pull
the book and send it to the location you request. Someone will
notify you when the book has arrived.
Return to Questions
- How do I check out a laptop and which branches have
them available?
Go to the InfoCommons
Desk (by the elevator shaft) at Redwood for laptops. At Jordan and
Sandy laptops are available at the Circulation desks. At South, laptops
are handled in the computer lab instead of the library. Laptops are
checked out with your OneCard and may be kept for 24 hours.
Return to Questions
- Are there computer labs in the library for students
to use?
The InfoCommons computer
lab is located inside the Redwood Library. South has nine computers
for student use. MeadowBrook has two computers with internet access
but no word processing. Jordan Library is right next to a large computer
lab. Printing is two cents a page, and you must have your OneCard to
print. Students automatically have $2.00 for printing available on their
OneCards.
Return to Questions
- Does the library have the books for my classes?
Yes, one copy of each
textbood is now available on Reserve at the circulation desk. Redwood
has textbooks for almost all classes taught at SLCC. Sandy and
South campuses have most of the textbooks for classes taught on those campuses.
Part of your student fees pay for this service.
Return to Questions
- What is a reserve item and how do I get it?
The Reserve system is
designed to allow all students in a class access to an assigned item that
belongs to the Library or is the personal property of the instructor or department.
The materials are entered into the Library catalog and can be searched
for by Instructor, Course and title. Reserve items are kept at
the circulation desk and must be checked out before they can leave the desk.
Items are checked out for four hour periods and may not leave the Library.
